Readings for the Day:
Sermon:
The feast day of Epiphany is one of the oldest in the church. Originally it was a celebration of the incarnation of God in Jesus. We see that very much in the birth of God as Jesus. We also see the nature of God in how He was born in this world.
The Wise Men, like us, go first to where you would think the power of God
would reside- in the palace. But He isn’t there. And Herod doesn’t even know about it. Instead, it takes those learned in the Scriptures to point the way to Bethlehem.
And there they find Jesus not in a palace, but in the dwelling of a poor family.
And yet this baby terrifies Herod, so much that he tries to have Him killed.
The power of God is made perfect in weakness (2 Cor 12:9). As long as we hold onto that truth, we will know who God is. He is the one who
didn’t come in with a conquering army, but instead died to save us all.
