This Sunday, we will hear the words from Hebrews that "the word of God is living and active".
There's another verse that gets at our relation to Scripture. We hear it in Deuteronomy 30:14: "the word is very near to you; it is in your mouth and in your heart for you to observe."
This comes from Moses' words to the Israelites as they prepare to enter the Promised Land. What he's telling them is they don't have to look far to hear what God has to say to them. God has passed on the Law to them through Moses, and the people are called to pass on that word to their children and their children's children.
God is always speaking to us through every means possible, it's just that we don't always go a great job of listening. But God has still provided ways for us to listen to Him. The Word of God in Scripture is one of the primary ways He does so. He also does so through the gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
How close is the Word of God to you? It's just as far as it takes you to lean over and grab your Bible. In fact, it is even closer. "It is in your mouth and in your heart", and God Himself is that close to you too.
