Confessing Jesus as Lord with the Confession of Saint Peter the Apostle

Readings for the Day:

Reflection:

Why is Jesus’ reaction to Peter so strong in his confession?

Because Peter actually gets it. To others, the Son of Man is just a prophet. That is, to them the Son of Man is a great guru or teacher, or perhaps just an inspiring speaker and example to follow.

But Jesus is more than that. Jesus is “the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus isn’t just a teacher or a moral example to follow. Jesus’ authority goes beyond what is human to that which is Divine. Jesus is the Son of God, even God Himself in human form.

Who Jesus is goes beyond what we could even imagine at first glance. It takes us being open to listen and hear what God is truly saying to us to see Jesus for who He is, and thus to confess Him as Lord.
