In this Gospel reading we hear primary how God the Father has given a great amount of authority to God the Son, that is Jesus. One such authority is that of judgement.
The good news (the literal meaning of Gospel) is that anyone who hears and truly listens to the Son will receive the gift of eternal life. Jesus is here to offer us the gift of life. Jesus wants us to receive life.
The good news with Jesus being given authority is that we are in very good and capable hands. Jesus wants what is best for us. Jesus wants for us to have life. For all of that, we can truly say, "Thanks be to God!"
