Being Leaders, Like Priscilla & Aquila: Priscilla & Aquila

Readings for the Day:

Original Manuscript:

Priscilla and Aquila were a couple mentioned by Paul in the New Testament. They were tentmakers, like Paul was, and they also helped him in spreading the Gospel.

In the early church, the roles and position of the clergy were not as well-defined as they are now. We don’t know if Priscilla and Aquila would have been considered “ordained” by today’s standards. It is thought Priscilla might have been the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews, but even this is uncertain.

What we do know is that Priscilla and Aquila were extremely active members of the church and that they were a huge help to Paul. Whatever their official leadership role was doesn’t matter. We are all called to be like Priscilla and Aquila. We are called to be active leaders in the church. We are all called to share the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ to all we meet in the world.

Whether or not you are Paul doesn’t matter. Whether or not you are ordained doesn’t matter. We all are called to play active, vital, and important roles in the church. We are all called to proclaim the Gospel. Priscilla and Aquila show us that, so let us follow in their example in our service to God in the church.
