Recently a colleague pointed out a trait at the start of Luke.
Often times when someone breaks into song or prophecy in the early days of Jesus coming into this world, we are told they do so being filled with the Holy Spirit. The exceptions being Mary in her song, though the Holy Spirit came upon her so that she would bear Jesus, and Anna, who is the only person we are told is a prophet at this point in Luke.
These beautiful truths and declarations come to us from the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. All three of the Lucan hymns, the Songs of Zechariah, Mary, and Simeon (which is listed here) are sung even today.
It is a reminder of the truth we heard a few weeks ago on Sunday, that no one declares “Jesus is Lord” without the Holy Spirit being present in them. It is also a reminder that God is the Creator, and all words and art flow through Him. With God’s presence in our lives, we can create, and in doing so we can create something beautiful indeed.
