God's Presence with Us: Reflection on the 6th Sunday of Easter

Readings for the Day:

Reflection:

In all of our readings today, we see God working to become closer to us. We hear in our Gospel that Jesus, in leaving this world, will provide us with the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, which is God's everlasting presence in us and in our lives. We hear in Revelation of the Heavenly Jerusalem, a place with no need of a Temple because God is present with everyone and everywhere within the city. The Psalm tells us of God being made known to all nations. Finally in Acts we hear of Lydia, whose heart was opened to God. In letting God in, not only was she baptized, her whole family was baptized with her as well.

God's desire is to be close to us. God's desire is to be in relationship with us. God continues to do the work to make that connection possible for us in this life and the next. Our hope is that we, like Lydia, can be open to having God change our hearts so that we can let the Lord in.

Our hope is that all in the world will have the opportunity to let God in. We can help make that happen by sharing the Good News to all that we meet. In this way God's relationship will be built not only with us but also with all others we may encounter.
