Faith Fact- Track 1 and Track 2 in the Revised Common Lectionary

For the Word of God portion of our Sunday Worship, we have a 3 year cycle of readings titled Years A, B, and C in the Revised Common Lectionary of readings. That means we will have, for example, the same readings for the 1st Sunday of Advent in 3 years time.

The one exception is the Season after Pentecost. For this season, there are 2 possible options for the Old Testament Readings and the Psalms that go with them. They are as follows:
  1. Track 1, which takes us straight through the Old Testament to give us a better sense of the story of the Ancient People of Israel
  2. Track 2, which provides Old Testament readings that pair well with the Epistle and Gospel lessons
The typical recommendation is to pick one Track and follow it for the entire Season. If the priest in charge chooses, potentially a church could follow a 6 year cycle with the first 3 years following Track 1 and the second 3 years following Track 2.
