Here is one of the interesting aspects of the Resurrection story. The men, the Twelve, are cowering in a room in town, worried that the authorities will come and do the same thing to them that they did to Jesus. It’s the women, the myrrh bearers, who venture out and risk being seen, just so they can properly anoint Jesus after His death.

Thus they are the ones who first receive the news of the Resurrection. They are the ones who first see the empty tomb, and the angels nearby. This is what they receive for their gift and their service.

It helps to be willing to venture out in our work to honor God. Doing this work may surprise us with an encounter with our Lord.
