Following just after our Gospel lesson today, Jesus warns His fellow Nazarenes that “no prophet is accepted in the prophet’s hometown.” After He finishes with several examples of this fact from Scripture, they try to chase Him off the edge of a cliff.

This is sadly after Jesus tells them who He is and what He will do. He is there to heal, restore sight, and free. This all comes not from His words, but the words of the Prophet Isaiah.

Jesus’ own hometown missed out on what He had to offer. The question for us is “are we listening? Will we take up our cross and follow Jesus, or will we shun Him? Will we be Disciples of Christ Jesus, or will we try and hurl Him off a cliff?”
