Jackson Kemper is a really fascinating person in the history of The Episcopal Church. He was the first missionary bishop, paving the way for many of the western dioceses in our church today.

Bishop Kemper went out into a part of the country that could be dangerous at the time. He helped prepare clergy for this experience. He even reached out and tried to provide better worship for Native Americans in their own languages.

Our Gospel today fits Kemper’s work. He lived into the mission Jesus gave at the end of His earthly ministry: to go and “make disciples of all nations”.

Will we follow the example of Bishop Kemper? Will we follow the words of Jesus? Will we do the work of spreading the Gospel to all we may meet, even to the ends of the earth?
