Over the years, I’ve found prayer walks to be a helpful way to build my ability to listen to God. It involves walking a path and trying to hear from God which branch in the road you should take. It is not always easy, though it is a great way to work on our ability to listen to the Lord.

Philip was already very good at doing this. As he’s walking he hears a messenger from God tell him where to go. So he got up and went and was open to hearing the Ethiopian eunuch reading from the Prophet Isaiah. His presence and openness to God’s Will means that Philip is there at the right time and the right place to bring this Ethiopian in to know Jesus.

Philip is known as an early evangelist. He is also listed earlier in Acts as one of the first 7 deacons. The role of deacons is to bring the needs of the world to the church so we can help provide for those needs. Philip here is showing us the needs of the world to come to know Jesus. That is something we can take and learn from and do something about. All we have to do is follow Philip’s example and be open to listening to God.
