Throughout history, and even today, there has been a mindset that if you are to make it in this world, you must be strong and tough, that you must give up nothing to anyone.
In the Beatitudes, Jesus flips that script. In His vision, it’s not the strong or mighty that win out in the end. It is “the poor in spirit”, the mourners, “the meek”, the hungry and thirst, “the merciful”, “the pure in heart”, “the peacemakers”, and the “persecuted”.
It’s not the mighty who win. It is the opposite. These are the ones who comprise the Saints of God. We would do well to remember this, especially as world continues to try and tell us otherwise.
