If anything good has come out of the Pandemic, it is that we all seem to care a lot less about our appearance. People don’t see the bottom of our faces that much now, so there is a lot less to be self-conscious about. Many of us had the longest streaks of going without a professional haircut, or if we did get our hair cut, it was by someone at home. You also see a lot less people dyeing their hair.

These are such little things that we don’t need to worry about anyways. That is exactly what Jesus tells us this morning. If God can array the lilies in beautiful colors, why should we, who are intelligent and can connect meaningfully to God, worry about how we look? Just as we saw last week, why should we worry about anything if we know God has our back? We may go through hardships, and we might not get what we want when we want it, but if we can trust in God, if we can hold on and have faith, then we will get what we need to better serve our Lord in this world.

The key to dealing with worry is to have some patience and wait in the Lord. We may not be able to do everything we want to do right now, particularly when it comes to keeping up our appearance, but that is okay. God remains with us on this journey, and as The Rolling Stones tell us, “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need.” Let God provide what you need and try not to worry too much about the rest.
