Combining Lectio Divina with Praying in Color

Outline:

Background:

  • Summer 2021- Music Camp at St. Luke's Newtown
  • Nick Mynyk, Choirmaster- came up with this method
    • Used with Psalm appointed for each day
    • Combines Lectio Divina and Praying in Color
    • Way to help the children connect with Scripture
    • We can all use this too
    • Skill does not matter
  • Used a version of this with VBS as well

Lectio Divina:

  • See Lectio Divina session for more details
  • Way to Study Scripture
  • Many forms this can take
  • Steps for this method:
    1. Read Scripture Passage
    2. Take a word or phrase that jumps out at you
    3. Ask what the word/phrase makes you think of
    4. Write/draw something based on that thought

Praying in Color:

  • Pioneered by Sybil MacBeth
  • Basically it is a method to use drawing and art as a means to pray
  • As a result, fits easily into Lectio Divina
  • Can use this method for all kinds of prayer
  • Can use other kinds of art too
