Reflecting on Size for the 4th Sunday after Pentecost (Proper 6, Year B)

Readings for the Day:
Reflection:

We don't expect big things in small packages.

We don't expect the Kingdom of God to be present in just a tiny seed. We don't expect the great King of Israel to be a tiny kid, let alone the youngest in a great family of boys.

Yet these are who God chooses to bring forth the Lord's will in this world.

God doesn't act in the way we would expect. God isn't present where we think the Lord will be. That's worth us taking the time to reflect on. Otherwise, we might miss God. Otherwise, we might be looking for God in all the wrong places.

Paul tells us today that "if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new!" God brings about the unexpected both in us and the world around us. We have to be ready to be surprised so that we can see God at work in the world, whether in ourselves or in others.
