Picture in your mind a group of people who are stuck inside together out of fear of what will happen to them if they venture outside. Sound familiar? No, it’s not our I’m talking about. It’s the world of the Disciples immediately after the Crucifixion.

These situations are not that much different from each other. Both involve a lot of fear and isolation. Both involve life or death scenarios.

In the world of the Disciples, huddled up out of fear that the authorities will kill them, Jesus appears in the midst of them.

What that means is that Jesus will be there in the midst of us too. Even when we’re alone and afraid, on pains of death, to leave our homes, Jesus is there with us in these moments. Jesus can and will come into our own homes and hearts to be present with us, especially in times of distress.

We may be in an eerily similar situation to the Disciples, but that gives us hope. Jesus appeared to them, and He will appear to us as well. Not even a locked door can keep Jesus out.
